Kogi Government Mourns Victims of Ibaji Boat Mishap

The Kogi State Government has expressed deep sorrow over the tragic boat accident that claimed the lives of no fewer than 26 passengers from Ibaji Local Government Area on the River Niger.
The mishap, which occurred on Tuesday, involved traders who were traveling from Ibaji to Ilushi market in Edo State.
In a condolence message, Governor Ahmed Usman Ododo described the incident as heartbreaking and extended his sympathies to the bereaved families and the people of Ibaji. He also directed the State Emergency Management Agency (SEMA) to work closely with local authorities to provide immediate support and relief to victims and their families.
The Governor assured that the state government, in collaboration with federal agencies, would step up efforts to improve waterway safety and prevent future tragedies.
“We call on our people, especially riverine communities, to always prioritize safety by avoiding overloading and using life jackets and other precautionary measures whenever they travel by water,” he said.
The state government further reaffirmed its commitment to standing with the people of Ibaji through this difficult period.
