Kogi Governor Commissions New Quick Response Unit Base to Bolster Internal Security
The Governor of Kogi State, Ahmed Usman Ododo, has commissioned a new base for the police Quick Response Unit. The facility, which was donated by the state government, aims to improve the operational capabilities of the Nigerian police in addressing security challenges.
The commissioning ceremony, held at the new base’s location in Lokoja, was attended by top government officials, security officials, and community leaders.
In his address, Governor Ododo emphasized the importance of a robust security infrastructure in maintaining peace and order in the state. He highlighted that the establishment of the base reflects his administration’s commitment to safeguarding the lives and property of Kogi residents.
“Today reminds me of our commitment to and subscription to a safe Kogi State where our children can go to school without fear, where our people can go about their normal businesses without the fear of being kidnapped, where business owners will be confident to set up businesses with the hope of being secured. It is our collective resolve and approach that is led by the people of Kogi State”, he stated.
While expressing gratitude to the immediate past governor of the state, Alhaji Yahaya Bello for setting the template for a secured Kogi state, Ododo thanked Bello for finding him worthy to build on his security legacies to keep the state safe.
Ododo who also praised President Bola Ahmed Tinubu for making easy the fight against insecurity, noted that the president stepped in and led from the front when armed men kidnapped students of the Confluence University of Science and Technology in Osara.
The Governor commended the police and other security agencies for their unwavering dedication to duty, assuring that he will continue to support every initiative aimed at winning the fight against insecurity.
Earlier in his remark, the State Security Adviser, Commander Jerry Omodara, said the newly commissioned base is designed to serve as a strategic hub for the Quick Response Unit (QRU), enhancing their ability to respond to incidents such as armed robbery, kidnapping, and other criminal activities.
Omodara said the completion of the project which was conceived barely four months ago shows the commitment of Governor Ododo to grassroots security. He said the pattern of security policies emerging in the state is rooted deeply at ensuring safety and adequate security in the state.
“You will recall that the first major policy of this government was the formation of the Metropolitan Quick Response for the state capital and environ, the administration also provided 105 security vehicles to security agencies including the state vigilante services. The recruitment of 1,050 hunters across the 21 local government areas, which was followed by the distribution of protective vests and other gadgets to enhance the operations of our hunters, amongs others. No wonder Kogi State is rated as the safest in north central region.”
The Security Adviser commended the governor for all his support towards ensuring the safety and well-being of all citizens of residents of Kogi State.
The Commissioner of Police, Kogi State Command, Bertrand Onuoha, in his welcome address lauded Governor Ododo for once again, demonstrating a strong commitment to the fight against crime and criminality in the state. He said the ediface will motivate the command in ongoing onslaught against criminals elements.
He assured the public of the police’s commitment to utilizing the new facility to improve response times and operational efficiency.
