Kogi Govt Flags Off Distribution of FG’s Assorted Palliatives

  • Governor Ododo assures of equitable distribution to the down trodden

Gov. Ahmed Ododo on Monday flagged off the distribution of the Federal Government’s assorted commodities comprising of Maize, Millet, sorghum, garri made available from the strategic reserve by the Federal Ministry of Agriculture for onward distribution to vulnerable persons as part of efforts to cushion the impact of economic downturn on the people.

The Governor who was represented by his Deputy, Comrade Joel Salifu who thanked the Federal government noted that such kind gesture was a testament of the All Progressive Congress, under the leadership of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu to resolve lingering hunger concerns in the nation. He stressed that the government and people of Kogi State will continue to support programmes and policies under the Renewed Hope Agenda of Mr. President.

The Governor further expressed gratitude to President Bola Ahmed Tinbubu for what he described as an unprecedented display of compassion and solidarity in approving the distribution of grains from the strategic reserve to feed the people of Nigeria. He also thanked the Federal Ministry of Agriculture, National Emergency Management Agency and other stakeholders in the process of delivering and distributing the palliatives.

He assured that the palliatives would be distributed in a equitable manner to those it was meant for noting that the state would adopt the Local Government Areas to ensure that the commodities got directly into the hand at the down trodden all across the 21-LGA of the state.

The Governor mentioned that as part of efforts made by the state to cushion the effects of the economic downturn, kogi state introduced a quarterly distribution of palliatives noting that the recent exercise held in February where the state government distributed over 30,000 bags of 50kg rice across the 21-LGA.

Governor Ododo expressed the process of the distribution would be monitored by various committees set up across board vowing to punish any one found culpable of diverting the palliative.

Speaking earlier, the Director General National Emergency Management Agency, Zubaida Umar who was represented by the Agency’s North Central Zonal Director, Bashir Idris said the event was to officially deliver the assorted commodities to state for onward distribution to the vulnerable and less privileged.

The DG outlined that the delivery which comprised of over 9,000 bags of 50kg Maize, over 10, 000 bags of 50kg Sorghum, over 3,000 bags of 50kg Millet, over 3,000 bags of 25kg garri amongst other commodities would go directly into the LGAs with the intent of easing the sufferings of the less privileged in the nooks and crannies of the society.
