Kogi Governor Urges Online Publishers to Uphold Journalism Tenets

Kogi State Governor, Ahmed Usman Ododo has called on guild of corporate online publishers to be responsive in their reportage.

Governor Ododo Stated this in a message during the Eight Annual Conference of Guild of Corporate online publishers (GOCOP), held in Lokoja on Thursday.

The Governor who was represented by his Deputy, Comrade Joel Salifu said his administration will partner with the Guild of Corporate Online Publishers in promotion of government activities and programmes.

He said online publishers must be objective, fair enough in its publication and sustain robust spreeding across the country and the world.

According to Governor Ododo, partnering with the guild of Corporate online publishers will enable citizens to build a united country with verse opportunities for all.

Ododo said his administration has involved in massive road construction, massive food production in the state noting that the state is blessed with aboundant resources hence taped will transform the economic development of the state.

The Governor commended President Ahmed Bola Tinubu’s renewed hope Agenda and for the deregulation of the oil sector in the country.

He also praised the state Commissioner of Information and Communications, Kingsley Fawon for his innovation in bringing the conference to Kogi, noting that it event has provided an avenue to showcase the state and activities of the government to publishers who will assist in sharing the lofty achievements of the consolidation administration without bias.

Earlier, the Chairman of the Ocassion Mallam Yusuf Mamman, former Nigeria’s Ambassador to Spain congratulated GOCOP for starting the journey to upholding professionalism in online publishing.

He said the new media is charting a new frientier and opening new opportunities in the digital ecosystem, and praised the initiators of GOCOP for identifying the gap and ensuring inclusivity in the journalism profession

He called on Nigerians to key into online internet learning stressing that lots of opportunities abound there for the people of the country.

In her welcome address, GOCOP President, Maureen Chigbo said this year’s annual conference is first to be hosted outside Lagos and the FCT, commending Kogi State government for granting the opportunity.

She noted that the guild is established to ensure sanity in online publishing in Nigeria, ensure that online publishers uphold the tenets of journalism in doing their jobs. She praised her predecessors and other members of GOCOP for upholding standards and ensuring sustainability.

The conference also featured keynote address delivered by Senator Liyel Imoke, former Governor of Cross River state, panelists session involving Rotimi Ajayi, a professor of Political Science at the Federal University, Lokoja, and Debrah M. Ogazuma, an edutainment communicator and veteran broadcaster.

Highpoint of the event was the induction of members into the Guild of Corporate Online Publishers.
