Kogi Governor Vows to Prioritize Youth Interests in Administration
The governor of Kogi state, Alhaji Usman Ododo has reaffirmed his administration’s unwavering commitment to championing the interests of the youth and students population in the state and across the country.
Ododo made this known on Tuesday when he received a delegation of youths and students leaders who visited to appreciate him for appointing Ambassador Oladele John Nihi as his Special Adviser on youths and students matters. The governor emphasized the pivotal role of young people in driving socio-economic development and pledged to prioritize their concerns.
He underscored the importance of creating ample opportunities for the youth to thrive, stating that his administration will continue to use the template set by the immediate past administration to project the interest of youths in all its policies and programs.
Governor Ododo said Oladele Nihi’s initial appointment as Chief Press Secretary and his recent redeployment were not mistakes, as he was initially appointed to the former position while awaiting approval from the state house of assembly for the appointment of Special Advisers. He added that once approval was obtained, Nihi’s appointment was deliberately prioritized as a gesture of appreciation for his dedication and sacrifices to the government and youth of Kogi State. Stressed that the decision also serves to demonstrate the administration’s recognition and appreciation of hard work.
He highlighted the significance of investing in youth empowerment initiatives, education, skills development, and job creation to harness the immense potential of the youth demographic, “all these would be channeled through him”, he added.
Acknowledging the challenges faced by young people, the governor commended President Bola Tinubu for giving young people opportunity in decision-making processes, stating that the president believes that the voices of our youth must be heard, and their perspectives must be considered in shaping policies that directly impact their lives. He reiterated his administration’s commitment to promoting youth participation in governance and ensuring their representation in key decision-making bodies.
Earlier in their separate remarks, the Public Relations Officer of the National Youth Council of Nigeria (NYCN), Comrade Dotun Omoleye, the President of National Association of Nigerian Students (NANS) Comrade Lucky Emonefe, the Chairman of NYCN Kogi State Chapter, Comrade Benjamin Jeremiah and the President, National Association of Kogi State Students, Comrade Elukpo, NANS stakeholder, Comrade Isah Emmanuel Ojodunwene all commended governor Ododo for appointing a worthy youth representative as his Special Adviser.
They described Nihi as a lover of youth development who is commited to advancing the course of youths across the continent of Africa, adding that his appointment is a perfect description of a round peg in a round hole.
They expressed gratitude to the governor for consolidating on the several youths oriented policies and programs of his predecessor Alhaji Yahaya Bello, assuring him of their total support for the success of his administration.
