Kogi Gov’s Chief of Staff tasks NAES on role in rebuilding area

Chief of Staff to Kogi State Governor, Pharm Abdulkareem Jamiu Asuku has tasked the leadership of the National Association of Ebira Students (NAES) to realise their roles in rebuilding Ebira land and the society in general.

He made the call on Monday in Okene when he received the body which was led by it’s President, Comrade Abdulsalam Salis.

This was contained in a press statement signed and made available by the Special Assistant to Pharm Asuku, Abubakar Mujahid Glassman.

According to the statement, the Chief of Staff thanked the association for the visit and urged them to maintain peace and tranquillity in conducting the affairs of the association and accept their roles as a call to public service.

Pharm Asuku however registered his displeasure over some vices common among the youths in Ebiraland, especially the rampant abuse of drugs, examination malpractices, disregard for education, among others; and tasked the association to preach against them.

The Chief of Staff reminded his guests on his days as a student of Abdulaziz Atta Memorial College, and Ahmadu Bello University, Zaria, where he said students were known for their diligence, and bemoaned the falling standard of education.

He therefore urged the association to come up with strategies to contribute significantly to the progress of Ebiraland as they are closer to the grassroots.

Pharm Asuku then used the opportunity to applaud the efforts of Governor Yahaya Bello in strengthening the security architecture of the state, including Ebiraland, saying the days of lawlessness and irresponsibility were eover.

The Governor, he said, has put in place necessary machineries to bring to an end vices such as thuggery, kidnapping, and terrorism which plagued the state before he assumed office.

He also pointed out that Governor Bello has also revamped the education system in Kogi State and it is left for the youth to do their bits by being responsible and accountable for their actions.

Pharm. Asuku emphasized that as a student body, the association has core responsibility on education, suggesting that it come up with radio programme to enlighten the people and organize extra lessons for Ebira students.

“I am giving you this assignment; go and draw up a program – a proposal on how this association can reach out to the community. You don’t have to wait to be like Dangote to touch lives, you can do that in your own way. On my part, I am going to find a way to support NAES in whatever way I can” he said.

Pharm. Asuku noted that students are an integral part of the socio-economic and political development of the state and country at large, their strength cannot be ignored in society.

While charging the student leaders to embrace diversity, be gender-sensitive, have religious tolerance, and remain steadfast and focused in their vision to lay a solid foundation for greatness.

Earlier in his address, the NAES President, Comr. Abdulsalam Salis had expressed appreciation to the Chief of Staff for being a good role model for the youths of Ebiraland and his remarkable role in impacting society positively.

He prayed God to reward the Governor, Alh. Yahaya Bello, and his Chief of Staff for their efforts in improving the socioeconomic infrastructure of Ebiraland and the state in general.
