Kogi Govt. Reiterates Readiness To Create Enabling Environment For Artisanal Miners

The Kogi State Government has assured Artisanal Miners of it readiness to create the enabling environment for better collaboration with the Federal Government.

The Kogi State Commissioner for Solid Minerals and Natural Resources,
Engr. Bashiru Gegu, who also doubles as the Chairman-Mineral Resources And Environmental Management Committee (MIREMCO), gave the assurances when he led his
team on a working visit to Gold mining sites in Okehi LGA of the State.

Engr. Bashiru emphasized Government’s readiness to support them in providing the needed implements that will ease their Gold exploration activities.

He however appealed on the need for synergy with the Artisanal Miners towards collaboration with Federal Government as a way pathway to maximizing the Government’s opportunities.

The MIREMCO Chairman equally advised the Miners not to encroach people’s licensed areas, pointing out that the state Government under the leadership of the Chief Servant, Gov. Usman Ahmed Ododo is ready to empower the youths and artisans only if they register their presence.

Their registration he noted is to enable them minimize the inflow of criminals to various mining sites across the State, pointing out that the State Government is bent on creating a peaceful business environment that would enable prosperity.

The Chairman assured of the present administration’s readiness towards ensuring the ease of doing business in a safe environment in the State, appealed for greater cooperation from the Miners.

In his response, the Chairman of the Artisanal Miners, Mal. Muhammed Idi, appreciated the appeal and efforts of Gov. Usman Ahmed Ododo, advising them to mine according to the rules.

He equally praised the administration’s commitment towards empowering the Youths through legitimate Mining, promising not to let the Governor and the State down.

The MIREMCO team led by Engr Bashir Abubakar, had in it entourage the Senior Special Assistant to the Governor on solid Minerals Development, Mr Abdulganiyu Unity, the NSCDC team.
