Kogi NYCN Disowns Usman Ogohi, Petitions DSS, Police Over Impersonation

The National Youth Council of Nigeria (NYCN), Kogi State chapter, has disowned one Usman Ogohi Samuel, describing him as an impostor who allegedly parades himself as the Chairman of the council to deceive and defraud unsuspecting members of the public.

The state chairman of NYCN, Comrade Abdulrahaman Abdulmumin Enesi, made this known on Friday during a press briefing held in Lokoja, which was attended by journalists and key youth stakeholders.

Comrade Enesi stated that a recent petition purportedly written to the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) by Ogohi Samuel over the Project Light Up Kogi East was an act of impersonation, stressing that the individual does not hold any position within the NYCN structure in Kogi State.

According to him, the council is fully aware of the importance of the Project Light Up Kogi East and has also taken note of the statement earlier made by Governor Ahmed Usman Ododo regarding alleged mismanagement of funds associated with the project. He explained that NYCN is already engaging the state government and other relevant stakeholders to properly ascertain the facts surrounding the project before taking any official position.

“The council believes in due process and responsible engagement. We are interacting with the appropriate authorities and stakeholders so that we can be well informed and properly guided before making any pronouncement or taking further action,” Enesi said.

He commended the Ododo administration for what he described as its visible commitment to youth development through appointments, inclusion, engagement and empowerment programmes, adding that the council would not allow any self-serving individual with a divisive agenda to misuse the name of NYCN for personal interests.

The NYCN chairman further disclosed that, following an emergency meeting of the council, a decision was reached to formally petition the Department of State Services (DSS), the Nigeria Police Force and other relevant security agencies to address the alleged case of impersonation involving Ogohi Samuel.

He also called on the EFCC to disregard any correspondence from Ogohi Samuel presented in the name of the NYCN Kogi State chapter, urging the anti-graft agency to investigate and prosecute him in line with the law.

Comrade Enesi reassured youths across Kogi State of the council’s commitment to protecting their collective interests and maintaining the integrity of the NYCN as the authentic and recognized umbrella body for youth affairs in the state.
