Kogi Politics: Why Asuku Should Remain in Government Beyond 2024 As Youths Surest Emancipation Route to Active Governance
History was made in 2016 when Pharmacist Abdulkareem Asuku Jamiu was appointed Chief Protocol to His Excellency, Governor Yahaya Bello. At this time, Asuku was only 32 years old and the youngest amongst the high ranking political appointees that worked with his Excellency during his first tenure.
As youth, he invested an enormous amount of time to serving the people’s interests and actively involved in key transformation projects ranging from human capital development, and numerous philanthropic acts. Due to his dedication, positive attitude to work, and quick turn of events, Asuku did not get to finish his tenure as Chief Protocol before he was elevated to serve in the capacity of the Chief of Staff to the Governor, in 2019. At that time, he was only 35 years of age.
Youths before now has been key instruments of ensuring the emergence of political candidates at the pool, but never given the chance of serving in principal offices as regards to governance. The narrative was changed in Kogi State, all thanks to the leadership style of Governor Yahaya Bello.
Asuku’s performances as Chief Protocol and as Chief of Staff has proven beyond reasonable doubts that if given a chance, youths can contribute meaningfully to the development and upliftment of the State and the entire country at large.
Why should Asuku remain in power beyond 2024? To answer this, let me refresh your memories of a slang catching the wind like wildfire. And I am sure most of you must have heard of it. AsukuLifted, a chant in the mouth of many pouring encomiums on Asuku for his impactful roles in ensuring youths across the three senatorial districts of the state are actively involved in governance.
AsukuLifted, as many now referred to the youngest Chief of Staff to a seating Governor in Nigeria, could be traced back to the likes of Amb. Oladele John Nihi, Director General GYB2PYB Support Group and Hon. Ibikunle Abubakar, SSA Youth Empowerment (West) to the Governor. And ever since the slang was initiated, many has trooped out to tell one Asuku story or the other of how he has impacted their lives positively.
Recent appointments in the state is a clear evidence that Asuku is truly in the business of lifting others around him out of penury into a more stable and rewarding life. Also across the twenty one Local Government Areas of the state, Asuku has touched one life or even more.
As youths, would it not be a wise decision if we protect our easiest route to emancipation in terms of inclusive governance?
The answer to the above is left for you to make. But have it in mind that a Leader willing to show you how to fish and not giving you fishes is indeed a good Leader.
Already, we have rumor of Asuku’s governorship ambition and camps being formed to pilot the said ambition. Would it not be ideal we all key into such camps as youths if truly it exists? Peruse!
