Kogi Poly Names Library After Late Former Rector, Prof. Matthew Ajibero

The Kogi State Polytechnic has officially renamed its main library after late Professor Matthew Ajibero, in a move to honor the legacy of the former Rector. The unveiling ceremony, held on Monday at the Polytechnic’s main campus in Lokoja, was attended by staff, students, and notable members of the academic community.

The Rector, Professor Usman Ogbo, led the dedication and highlighted Prof. Ajibero’s indelible contributions to the institution. In his remarks, Prof. Ogbo described the late Ajibero as a principled and dedicated academic, whose influence on the Polytechnic remains profound. “Professor Matthew Ajibero was a man of high principle and dedication, a great academic whose impact on Kogi State Polytechnic cannot be overemphasized. In his time, the Polytechnic witnessed speedy development as many of the structures including the library, school of management sciences and other structures were initiated by him”, he said.

Prof. Ogbo further explained that the decision to rename the library in Ajibero’s honor was made last year to immortalize his legacy and acknowledge his significant contributions to the institution’s academic and infrastructural growth. During his tenure, Prof. Ajibero was credited with laying a strong foundation for both academic excellence and infrastructure development, which continues to benefit the Polytechnic today.

The Polytechnic Librarian, Mrs Omolola Audu, in her speech expressed gratitude on behalf of the library staff for the decision to honor one of its most revered leaders. She said newly renamed Prof. Matthew Ajibero Library will serve as a lasting reminder of his dedication and commitment to education and development in Kogi State.
