Kogi Poly Uncovers Certificate Forgery Syndicate, Suspends Deputy Registrar and Others

The Management of Kogi State Polytechnic, Lokoja, has uncovered a result falsification syndicate allegedly involving some students, non-students, and a few members of staff who conspired to manipulate academic records in the institution.

The Rector of the Polytechnic, Professor Salisu Ogbo Usman, made the revelation during a press briefing on Thursday, describing the development as a “serious assault on the credibility and reputation” of the institution.

According to him, the syndicate forged National Diploma (ND) and Higher National Diploma (HND) results in the name of the Polytechnic and used them to apply for admission or collect original certificates. Some suspects, he said, even tampered with the institution’s security features on official Statements of Result.

“Some of these individuals had the temerity to apply for HND admission using forged ND results, while others forged both ND and HND results to obtain original certificates,” the Rector stated.

Professor Usman disclosed that the discovery followed intelligence reports and verification exercises jointly conducted by the Polytechnic’s Admission, ICT, and Security Units in collaboration with law enforcement agencies.

He identified some of the suspects as Amina Mustapha, who was never a student of the institution but allegedly forged ND and HND results in Computer Science; and Mfon Asuquo, a student who absconded with multiple carryovers but fraudulently obtained a Statement of Result with the aid of staff members in the Exams Unit.

Others involved include Dansuma Mercy Sunday, who allegedly connived with Abubakar Musa (2024/HND/URP/052), Adejoh Faith (2024/HND/OTM/179), Ademu Rilwan (2024/HND/BUS/158), and Henry Tope, a former student described as the mastermind behind the forgery network.

Four suspects were reportedly arrested during registration and handed over to the institution’s security unit for investigation, which later exposed the wider syndicate.

Professor Usman revealed that the scandal also implicated five staff members, including a Deputy Registrar, who have been suspended. One of the implicated staff, Mr. Dominic Egwuda, allegedly aided the submission of forged results and has since absconded after failing to honour the institution’s invitation.

In another discovery, the Rector said that security operatives recovered 30 forged Statements of Result, fake official stamps, and admission letters from the residence of Henry Tope, further confirming the depth of the forgery network.

“Kogi State Polytechnic maintains zero tolerance for academic fraud, result falsification, and all forms of unethical conduct,” Professor Usman stressed. “Any staff member, student, or external collaborator found culpable will face the full wrath of the law.”

He assured that all individuals involved would be handed over to the police for further investigation and prosecution, adding that the institution would continue to strengthen its quality assurance and security systems to prevent a recurrence.

“We will not relent in protecting the hard-earned reputation of Kogi State Polytechnic. Integrity and transparency remain our guiding principles,” the Rector affirmed.

The Rector’s briefing comes as part of ongoing efforts by the Polytechnic to uphold academic standards and restore public confidence in its certificate issuance processes.
