Kogi Records Major Breakthrough as Joint Security Forces Neutralise Bandits
The Kogi State Government has announced a major breakthrough in its ongoing fight against banditry and terrorism, following successful precision operations carried out by joint security forces across parts of the state.
According to a statement issued on Monday by the Commissioner for Information and Communications, Kingsley Femi Fanwo, the operations involved coordinated efforts by the Army, Navy, Air Force, Department of State Services (DSS), Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC), and the Nigeria Police Force, with aerial support from the Police Airwing.
The coordinated air and ground operations reportedly led to the destruction of several bandits’ camps, the dismantling of criminal networks, and the neutralisation of many suspected criminals, while others sustained injuries during the encounters.
The renewed security offensive, which was executed over the weekend, was said to have been strategically coordinated by the Kogi State Government in collaboration with the Office of the National Security Adviser and the leadership of the various security agencies.
The government noted that initial feedback from affected communities indicates renewed confidence in the ability and commitment of security forces to bring an end to banditry and kidnapping, not only in Kogi State but across the country.
The state government also expressed appreciation to President Bola Ahmed Tinubu for his commitment to national security, as well as to the National Security Adviser and heads of the armed forces and security agencies for their support and cooperation.
Governor Ahmed Usman Ododo, according to the statement, has reaffirmed his determination to sustain the momentum of the operations until banditry is completely eradicated from Kogi State, assuring residents that no resources would be spared to achieve lasting peace.
The government further urged residents to continue to provide timely and credible intelligence to security agencies to support ongoing operations. Health institutions across the state were also advised to promptly report cases of gunshot wounds to security authorities to aid efforts to track fleeing suspects.
The Kogi State Government reiterated its commitment to safeguarding lives and property and restoring lasting peace to all parts of the state.
