Kogi Solid Minerals Commissioner Inaugurates Borehole Donated By Artisanal Miners Association

… talks tough on reclamation, compliance with CDA by Mining Companies.

The Artisanal Miners Association and Gov. Usman Ahmed Ododo, through the Kogi State Commissioner for Solid Minerals and Natural Resources, Engr Bashiru Gegu, have donated a borehole each to Enjema Community in Ankpa LGA.

This is as the Commissioner talk tough on reclamation and the need for compliance with Community Development Agreement by Mining Companies.

Speaking at the inauguration ceremony of the Borehole held at Enjema Community, Ankpa LGA, Engr. Bashiru, said his donation of a Borehole to the Community is in support of Gov. Usman Ahmed Ododo’s desire to provide portable water for her citizens.

Performing the Inauguration of the Borehole, the Kogi State Commissioner For Solid Minerals and Natural Resources, Engr. Bashiru Gegu, praised the Artisanal Miners Association for giving back to the host Community.

According to Engr. Bashiru, “Enjema community is blessed with coal in a high commercial quantity. Unfortunately, the major operators he said couldn’t meet up with their Community Development, hence the donation of the borehole to the community by Artisanal Miners”.

Engr. Bashiru expressed happiness at the way and manner the Artisanal Miners have Coordinated themselves, praised them for peaceful coexistence and for encouraging responsible Mining activities that is taking place in the domain.

The Commissioner promised Government support for the Miners in the area of collaboration, sued for compliance with the Community Development Activities as well as collaboration with the major mining companies, reiterated the need to maintain peaceful coexistence with the host Community by Mining Companies.

The Chairman of Ankpa LGA, Engr. Muhammed Ogbo, in his remarks, appreciated Gov. Ododo for the opportunity given to him to serve his people, described Governor Ahmed Usman Ododo as a humanist, promised to support his administration 100%.

In his own remarks, the Onu Enjema, thank Governor Ahmed Usman Ododo for leading from the front and creating enabling environment to both Miners and the community.

The commissioning held in the presence of the Executive chairman, Ankpa LGA, Engr. Muhammed Ogbo, Former Council Chairman who doubles as the Special Adviser on Coal exploration to the Governor, Jon Ibrahim Abagwu, Director Coal exploration of the Kogi State Ministry of Solid Minerals processing company Ltd, Hon Idris Musa, Zonal Security Adviser Hon Ahmed Ahmed, Chairman Miners Association of Nigeria Kogi State Chapter Prince Yunusa Oruma and the Onu of Enjema.

In a another development, Ranji Mining company has opened up a 5 kilometer of access road to mining sites and has also employed more than 100 youths. Engr. Bashiru praised Ranji Mining Company for the road and employment opportunities provided to the people of Ankpa, particularly Enjema Community.

Highlights of the Commissioner of the Borehole project at Enjema Community in Ankpa LGA was the tour of some Mining sites by the Commissioner of Solid Minerals and Natural Resources.
