Kogi State Government Inaugurates Sport Associations Chairmen

The Kogi State Government has inaugurated Chairmen of Sports Associations in the state, reaffirming its commitment to repositioning Kogi as a leading hub for sports development in Nigeria. The ceremony was held today at the Confluence Stadium in Lokoja.

In his opening remarks, the Director of the Kogi State Sports Council, Mr. Ogah James, described sports as a unifying force that bridges the gap between the high and low in society. He commended the caliber of individuals appointed to the board, describing them as men and women of pedigree who can deliver on the mandate. Mr. James also called for sustained partnership between government and the private sector to boost the sports sector in the state.

Performing the inauguration, the Commissioner for Youth and Sports Development, Honourable Monday Aridaojo Anyebe, charged the newly inaugurated board Chairmen to work as a team to restore Kogi State to its rightful place in Nigerian sports.

He emphasized the importance of grassroots development, urging the boards to prioritize the identification and nurturing of young talents across communities. The Commissioner also advised them to adopt proper channels for resolving conflicts and to maintain unity and harmony within their associations.

“This inauguration is a deliberate step to ensure that Kogi State recovers its lost place in the sporting arena. I urge you to see this as an opportunity to serve and make a difference,” he said.

Speaking on behalf of the inaugurated Chairmen, Hon. Mustapha Abdullahi, pledged their collective commitment to transforming sports in Kogi State. He assured that they would work tirelessly to make Kogi one of the best-performing states in sports nationwide.

The event at the Confluence Stadium drew government officials, sports enthusiasts, and stakeholders who expressed optimism about a new era of sports development in Kogi State.
