Kogi State Government Mourns Lokoja Accident Victims, Moves to Enhance Road Safety

The Kogi State Government has expressed deep condolences to the families affected by the tragic road accident in Lokoja, which claimed several lives and left many others severely injured.
In an official statement by the Commissioner for Information and Communications, Hon. Kingsley Fanwo, the government described the incident as a devastating loss not only to the affected families but also to the people of Kogi State and the Federal University of Lokoja community. Acknowledging the immense grief caused by the accident, the government reaffirmed its commitment to improving road safety in high-risk areas.
Governor Ahmed Usman Ododo has directed the State Ministry of Works to engage the Federal Ministry of Works to enforce speed limits on the highway section near the Federal University, Lokoja. Additionally, the State Security Adviser and the Commissioner for Transportation have been tasked with developing a strategy to regulate the movement of heavy trucks during peak hours to prevent further accidents.
The government urged all road users to exercise caution and responsibility to prevent similar tragedies in the future. Students were also advised to remain calm as authorities collaborate with the university management to enhance safety measures for both students and other road users.
“Our hearts go out to the families of the victims during this difficult time. May God grant them the strength to bear this irreparable loss,” the statement read.
