Kogi State Governor Commended for Gender-Inclusive Initiatives in Local Governance

The Association of Nigerian Female Students (ANFS), has expressed heartfelt appreciation to the Governor of Kogi State, Alhaji Ahmed Usman Ododo, for his recent decision to enhance female representation in local governance.

The ANFS, led by National President Amb. Comr. Princess Alice Omoniyi, praised Governor Ododo for his gender-sensitive policies, which have resulted in the appointment of women as vice chairpersons in all 21 local government councils and ensured that 40% of the 239 ward councillors are women.

This landmark decision, announced in the state’s capital, Lokoja, marks a significant step towards achieving gender inclusiveness and empowering women in Kogi State’s political landscape. The ANFS stressed the Governor’s commitment to grassroots development and his open-door policy, which has been instrumental in fostering a more inclusive and representative governance structure.

“Governor Ododo, widely recognized for his dedication to security, justice, education, and worker welfare, has introduced several key initiatives. He recently presented an Executive Bill to the Kogi State House of Assembly to amend the establishment act of the Kogi State Vigilante Service, incorporating local hunter groups to strengthen state security. Additionally, the Governor has bolstered the judiciary by appointing new judges and khadis and supporting the judiciary with new vehicles.

“In the realm of education, the Governor has been lauded for his support of students at all levels, providing bursaries, scholarships, and financial assistance for examination fees. His administration’s consistent payment of salaries and focus on healthcare improvements have also been recognized as critical components of his governance”, she added.

The ANFS acknowledged that despite his relatively short time in office, Governor Ododo has already made significant strides in enhancing the welfare and happiness of Kogi State’s residents. The association, representing future mothers and current daughters, voiced their confidence in the Governor’s leadership and expressed optimism for the future under his administration.
