Kogi State Governor Sets Up Flood Disaster Response Team

In preparation for potential flooding in the state, the Governor of Kogi State, Alhaji Ahmed Usman Ododo, has set up a Flood Disaster Response Team. This move follows warnings from regulatory agencies that states located along Rivers Niger and Benue, including Kogi State, are at high risk of flooding.

In a statement released by the state commissioner for Information and Communications, Kingsley Fanwo, the newly formed Response Team will be responsible for coordinating the state’s flood mitigation efforts and implementing the State Action Plan on Flooding. Fanwo said Kogi State, being the confluence of Nigeria’s two largest rivers, has faced severe flooding in previous years. The government’s proactive approach aims to minimize losses and safeguard the lives and property of residents in flood-prone areas.

The team will be chaired by the Deputy Governor, Comrade Joel Salifu, and will include key state officials, such as the Auditor General and Commissioners from various ministries, including Health, Environment, Works, Finance, and Information. Other members include advisers on emergency management and state security.

According to the statement, the team is set to be inaugurated soon by Governor Ododo, who emphasized the importance of protecting the state from the destructive impact of flooding.
