Kogi State Polytechnic Mourns Former Governing Council Member, John Otaru

The Kogi State Polytechnic community is in mourning following the death of Mr. John Friday Otaru (Jafo), a former internal member of the institution’s Governing Council, who passed away on Sunday, January 12, 2024.

In an official statement signed by the Director of Public Relations, Uredo Omale, the Rector of Kogi State Polytechnic expressed heartfelt condolences on behalf of the Academic Board, Management, staff, alumni, and students to Mr. Otaru’s family, kinsmen, associates, and the people of Ikuehi Ihima in Okehi Local Government Area.

Described as a diligent, selfless, and intelligent public servant, Mr. Otaru made significant contributions to the Polytechnic throughout his career. He previously served as Head of the Department of General Studies, Director of Poly Consult, Dean of Students’ Services, and as a representative of the Academic Board on the Governing Council from 2021 to 2024.

The Polytechnic highlighted his exceptional leadership, resourcefulness, and professionalism in all his roles, noting that his commitment greatly advanced the institution’s development.

“While his demise is difficult to bear, we are comforted by his impressive record of service, especially to the present administration,” the statement read.

The institution offered prayers for strength and comfort to Mr. Otaru’s family, friends, well-wishers, and the Polytechnic community.

“May God forgive his shortcomings and grant him eternal rest. Amen,” the statement concluded.
