Kogi Traditional Council Holds Valedictory Session For Late Attah, as KGSG appoints Ohinoyi as Acting Council President
…lauds commitment of traditional rulers to security and peace.
The Kogi State Government has appointed the Ohinoyi of Ebiraland, HRH Dr. Ado Ibrahim as the Acting President, Kogi State Council of Chiefs and the Ejeh of Dekina, HRH Alh. Usman Obaje as Acting Chairman Igala Area Traditional Council.
This was announced on Monday at the special valedictory session held in honour of the Late Attah of Igala land, Dr. Micheal Ameh Oboni ii, by the State Council of Chiefs.
In his address the Commissioner for Local Government and Chieftaincy Affairs, Barr. Salami Momodu Ozigi noted that the demise of the late Attah has created a huge vacuum in the traditional institution of the state that would be difficult to fill.
He described the late ruler as an upright leader, who was highly courageous in the discharge of his duties while he also served as a great pillar for the Governor Bello led administration since its inception as the governor enjoyed a good relationship with the late royal majesty.
The Commissioner added that although it was unfortunate that the state lost the royal father when his counsel and services were mostly needed, they took solace in the fact that during his years of reign he did his best to uphold the tenet of his tradition while he effectively led and united the State Council of Chiefs.
He affirmed that the Governor Bello led administration was well aware of the prime position which the Royal Fathers occupy in the society hence issues of their appointments and wellbeing are often treated with utmost diligence, willingness and desired attention adding that it was clear that this regime was doing its best to attend to the needs of Royal Fathers in the face of very scarce resources available to government.
The Commissioner while lauding the traditional ruler’s role in ensuring peace within their community also charged them to continue to partner with the New Direction Agenda of fighting crimes and criminality as there would be no meaningful development in an atmosphere of insecurity.
He noted that Government had discovered that most crisis and disputes in communities were products of chieftaincy issues urging them to always adhere strictly to due process in selection of candidates to occupy traditional stool in their various communities.
The Commissioner also at the meeting announced the appointment of Mr. Samson Ekele, as the Achadu Attah as part of the process of appointing the new Attah of Igala Kingdom while Alhaji Salihu Idaji was announced as the rightful Onu Itobe as declared by a court of competent jurisdiction
In his remark, the Ohinoyi of Ebira Land, HRH Dr. Ado Ibrahim eulogized the late Attah of Igala as a God fearing leader who only concerned himself with promoting peace and the good interest of his people.
The Ohinoyi appreciated the State Government under the leadership of Governor Bello for creating an enabling for harmonious co existence between government and the traditional institution which he noted has engendered peace in the state.
He pointed out that God has given them leadership position to make positive impact on their people hence every traditional ruler should lead imbibing the fear of God and place priority on the interest of the people.
The Ohinoyi would function in his new capacity pending the appointment of a new Attah of Igala.
