Kogi’s Bold Embrace of Youth Leadership: A Model for Modern Governance – By Peter Ugbedeojo Nelson

Kogi State continues to distinguish itself with a clear and deliberate commitment to youth inclusion in governance. At a time when young people across Nigeria still contend with limited access to leadership spaces, the state’s current administration is proving that the future becomes brighter when capable young minds are given room to lead.

The Governor has demonstrated notable foresight by emphasizing that competence and leadership capacity are not tied to age. His administration has become an example of what is possible when government intentionally embraces the energy, innovation, and potential of young people. This posture has strengthened public confidence and provided a practical model for inclusive and forward-looking governance.

A recent example is the elevation of a young man in his 30s to the position of Local Government Chairman in Olamaboro. In a political climate where such roles are often dominated by much older individuals, the decision stands out as a courageous and progressive choice. It reinforces the belief that young leaders, when trusted with responsibility, can deliver results and contribute meaningfully to community development.

The Deputy Governor, Elder Joel Salifu Oyibo, has also been instrumental in supporting this youth-centered vision. Working in tandem, both leaders have cultivated an environment where young people feel valued, motivated, and confident enough to pursue leadership roles. Their combined efforts are gradually reshaping the state’s political culture and promoting a system of governance that is dynamic, inclusive, and attuned to the needs of the people.

The administration’s commitment to youth empowerment is more than a political gesture, it is a long-term investment in the growth and stability of Kogi State. By integrating young leaders into decision-making processes, the state is nurturing fresh ideas, encouraging creativity, and building a stronger pipeline of future leaders who can sustain development.

As we reflect on these achievements, it is only fitting to acknowledge God’s guidance and grace upon the leaders of Kogi State. Their dedication to youth inclusion continues to lay the foundation for a more promising future for all.
