KSCOET Mopa Seeks Strategic Partnership with AGRA, Receives Scholarship Commitment for 25 Students

The Kogi State College of Education (Technical), Mopa, has taken a significant step towards advancing agricultural education and development through a strategic engagement with the Alliance for a Green Revolution in Africa (AGRA).

During a courtesy visit by a delegation from the College to Kabba, the Country Director of AGRA, Dr. Rufus Olorunfemi Idris, pledged to sponsor 25 students enrolled in the institution’s agricultural sciences program. The visit was part of ongoing efforts by the College to attract development partners and expand opportunities for students.

Speaking on behalf of the Provost, Dr. M.K. Ibrahim, the College Librarian, Mr. Tunde Seidu, expressed the institution’s keen interest in partnering with AGRA to drive agricultural transformation, food security, and poverty alleviation. He highlighted the College’s strengths, including a dedicated academic workforce and over 400 hectares of arable land suitable for agricultural ventures. Mr. Seidu also conveyed the Provost’s appeal for scholarship support for students who are being trained to become agripreneurs upon graduation.

In his remarks, Dr. Idris reiterated AGRA’s commitment to youth development through agriculture-based entrepreneurship. He noted that AGRA is currently supporting similar initiatives in about ten tertiary institutions across the country. He described the proposed partnership with KSCOE(T) Mopa as timely and aligned with AGRA’s mission of promoting inclusive agricultural growth.

“As part of my personal commitment to empowering young people in agriculture, I will sponsor 25 students at the College,” Dr. Idris announced. He further pledged to visit the institution with his team to explore broader areas of collaboration between AGRA and the College.

The visit concluded with the presentation of an Award of Excellence to Dr. Idris, who was also decorated as a “Friend of the College” in recognition of his contributions to education and community development.
