Leading Okene council chairmanship aspirant empowers less privileged to cushion effect of Coronavirus
As the economic impact of the global pandemic – Coronavirus continue to hit on the economic development of societies across the world, frontline chairmanship aspirant for Okene Local Government Area in Kogi State, Hon Leonard Omuya Peters has reached out to the less privileged in the area including elders, widows and the youth.
It was no surprise therefore when barrage of encomiun greeted the political icon whose aspiration is under the platform of the ruling APC and his team during the programme which cut across the wards of the Local Government Area.
The programme also benefitted women and other interest groups under the APC in the heart of the central senatorial district of the state.
The items distributed include; food stuff, clothing, cash and other materials which he stressed were for the purpose of ameliorating the plights of the group during this harsh period of Corvid-19.
“Hon Leonard is making this landmark event by reaching out to the people of the Local Government in a very resourceful way to show that an individual can share in the challenges especially during this moment,” said Enesi And as who is a beneficiary.
On what informed his decision to carry out the programme, Hon Omuya said he had always been passionate about his and committed to bringing them close through reaching out to them in the best possible way he could.
“Instead of having people go through hardship during this time when this virus is ravaging lives across the globe, I decided to come home and share what I have with my people,” he stressed.
“I strongly believe these items shared would impact on the people and it is my belief that the beneficiaries will find these food items sustaining and useful at this critical time of biting economic times.”
Speaking, one of the beneficiaries, Mrs Marian Oyibo expressed happiness, noting that such privilege was something they never expected and prayed for the success of their benefactor whom she said has a milk of kindness flowing through his veins.
Another beneficiary, Mallam Isa Adeku also expressed gratitude for the kind gesture, stressing that “My gratitude goes to Hon. Leonard and God for granting him such wisdom to embark on this kind of poverty alleviation programme.”
