LG Polls: Kogi APC Sets Tone for Victorious Outing

  • as Gov. Ododo urges leaders, members to adhere to party’s constitution.
  • Women retain Vice chairmanship seats, get 40% council slots.

The Kogi state All Progressive Congress (APC) has met on Tuesday at the party secretariat in Lokoja to set the tone for a successful outing at the forthcoming Local Government council polls which has already been scheduled for October by the State Independent Electoral commission (SIEC).

Addressing party leaders and stakeholders, the State governor, Alhaji Ahmed Usman Ododo affirmed the resolution of the party on the allotment of 40% of the council seats to the women while they would also retain the Vice chairmanship seats of every Local Government Area.

The governor who hinted that the meeting was scheduled to enable the key stakeholders of the party deliberate on the forthcoming council election added that since The Kogi state Independent Electoral commission had flagged off the electoral process it was pertinent for the party to strategize on how to win a free, fair and credible election.

The governor said his administration with the support of party members have continued to deliver good dividends to the people of the state mentioning that while he inherited a popular party from his predecessor, Alhaji Yahaya Bello, he was determined to make APC in Kogi state far more popular and the choicest preference of the people. He said that his administration would make it increasingly unnecessarily to choose any other party over the APC in the state.

He attested that the upcoming LG council election is another opportunity to gauge the party’s public acceptance, while he assured that his administration would encourage the electoral body to organise a free fair and credible election.

The governor asserted that his government have empowered the people and have consistently given palliatives to cushion the effects of our national rebuilding process. He added that the government was investing billions into agriculture to guarantee food security and crash the cost of food in the state.

He noted further that the government was also upgrading primary health care in the state to improve the quality of health care services to the people while also turning Kogi to a construction centre through the construction and rehabilitation of urban roads and similarly the construction and rehabilitation of township roads across the state.

Governor Ododo used the occasion to thank President Bola Ahmed Tinubu for the support he has given to the sub nationals to drive the country out of the perilous conditions inherited. He pointed out that President Tinubu was truly the leader for such a season and without his doggedness, hard work and tireless strife, Nigeria would have found itself in more embarrassing conditions.

He added that the President’s infrastructural development program and economic recovery insensitives were truly laudable noting that his policies were tailored towards true federalism which has been of immense benefits to Kogi state.

While he urged the people of the state to support Mr. President to achieve his plans, he bemoaned and labelled people calling for protests at such a time as those who do not have the interest of the country at heart.

Governor Ododo reiterated his administration’s commitment to accountability to the people as he announced a quarterly Ministry, Department and Agencies briefing, where citizens would be put abreast of government’s effort in every sector and how much of his government’s mandate has been fulfilled.

The governor however urged party leaders and stakeholders to ensure strict adherence to the constitution of the party in the build up to the council polls, noting that they should all work together in unity to take the party to greater height.

Earlier in his address, the State APC Chairman, Hon. Abdullahi Bello, who announced the allotment of 40% of the council seats to women while they would also retain the Vice chairperson seats of every Local Government Area.

He added that stakeholders of the party had resolved to further the democratic tenets enshrined in the party by adopting the direct mode of primary election to ensure that every member of the party is carried along in the election of candidates.

The Chairman appreciated the immediate past governor of the state, Alhaji Yahaya Bello for laying a solid foundation for the progress of the party and the state, stressing that they are commited to continuing with the winning streak.

He thanked all party members for their cooperation and hard work at winning previous elections, adding that the party has set up machineries in motion to ensure a successful outing at the forthcoming council polls.

Other stakeholders who spoke at the event urged members to promote unity within the ranks of the party and work towards victory at the polls.
