LG Polls: Kogi APC Stakeholders Urges Public to Shun Misinformation by Opposition Parties

The All Progressives Congress (APC) in Kogi State has refuted claims by opposition parties that local government elections are not taking place across the state. According to the APC stakeholders, voting is currently in progress in all 239 wards and polling units in Kogi’s 21 local government areas, in line with guidelines provided by the Kogi State Independent Electoral Commission (KOSIEC).

In a press release signed by Hon. Michael Onimisi, the party expressed confidence in its preparedness and electoral strength, noting that it has campaigned extensively and is well-positioned for victory in the local government polls. The party also dismissed allegations that elections are being conducted at the Government House, describing such claims as “untrue and malicious.”

APC stakeholders further stated that voters had turned out in large numbers across the state, casting their ballots peacefully. “Our party faithful are at their polling units, voting and waiting to vote, with significant turnout observed,” the statement said.

Onimisi also criticized the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), asserting that the opposition is currently struggling with internal conflicts, leadership crises, and defections, which have rendered it ineffective. “The PDP, which is battling to stay afloat, is overwhelmed by internal strife and defections. They are a party submerged deep into political abyss,” he added.

The APC emphasized its strong political structure and numerical advantage in Kogi, claiming that these factors would secure victory for its candidates. The party urged the opposition to refrain from spreading misinformation and attempting to create a false narrative in hopes of gaining judicial sympathy after the elections.

Highlighting its robust campaign efforts, the APC noted that it organized well-coordinated rallies and roadshows that drew large crowds. The party reaffirmed its commitment to the rule of law and praised KOSIEC’s efforts in ensuring a transparent and credible electoral process. KOSIEC Chairman, Mamman Eri, had earlier assured the public of a free and fair election, scheduled for October 19, 2024.

APC stakeholders called on the public to disregard what they termed as “media propaganda” from the PDP and expressed confidence in their candidates’ chances of emerging victorious in the polls.
