Light Up Movement Participates in KERC Takeoff Stakeholders Engagement

The leadership of Light Up Movement, on Monday, participated at the first Stakeholders Town Hall organized by the Kogi State Electricity Regulatory Commission (KERC) in Lokoja.

The Chairman of the Movement, Comrade Iliyasu Zakari led other members of the executive to the meeting.

The meeting was largely a town hall organized to intimate the public about Wednesday 13th March full take-off of KERC with the Kogi State Electricity Distribution Company Limited (KEDL) also ready to take over the state electricity markets from the Abuja Electricity Distribution Company (AEDC).

Questions bothering on the viability of the market and the level of preparedness of KERC to face the challenges of the market were asked and answers were provided in the affirmative.

The Kogi State House of Assembly had passed the bill for a law creating the KERC in June 2024 following Federal Government’s decision to sign into law an act empowering states to develop their electricity markets. Kogi State had notified and requested the Nigeria Electricity Regulatory Commission (NERC) to transfer regulatory responsibilities to it in August, 2024. NERC issued an order to transition to State Markets in September, 2024.
