Light Up Movement rejects electricity tariff increase
Light Up Movement has expressed its total opposition to the planned hike in electricity tariff in the country.
Its opposition comes against the backdrop of a review meeting held to present its position after the Customer Consultation Engagement on Tariff Review held in Lokoja on Thursday where its representatives fully participated.
The Movement in a statement signed by its Chairman, Comrade Ikiyasu Zakari commended the General Manager, Kogi Region – Abuja Electricity Distribution Company, AEDC, for the quick resolution of some power challenges in many communities within the state through installation and replacement of damaged transformers which has culminated in relatively stable supply.
The movement further expressed the belief that the solution is aggressive metering and not necessarily increase in tariff so as to bring in more customers.
“The Discos should look at investment in distribution and collection first.
“Noble as the the plan to place consumers into Prime, Core and other categories is, the unmetered customers will still bear the brunt from estimation,” it stressed.
The movement therefore urged the Meter Assess Provider for Kogi State and AEDC to embark on massive campaign on metering even as it added that several customers find it extremely difficult to assess these meters despite filling forms and making payments.
