Mopamuro LG Chairman Issues Executive Order to Regulate Public Gatherings

In response to recent security concerns, the Executive Chairman of Mopamuro Local Government Area, Hon. Ademola Bello, has issued an Executive Order mandating stricter regulation of public gatherings within the LGA. The directive follows a strategic meeting with heads of security agencies and is aimed at preventing future violence and maintaining public safety.

The move comes in the aftermath of a tragic incident that led to the death of a young community member during a cultural event disrupted by violence.

While reaffirming the constitutional right to peaceful assembly, Hon. Bello stressed that such gatherings must prioritize public safety. The Executive Order, therefore, seeks to restore order and security in social, cultural, and political events across the LGA.

In a statement issued earlier today by the SSA Media and Publicity to the Chairman, Olowu Juwon, key provisions of the Executive Order include:

  1. Mandatory Approval: All public gatherings must receive prior approval from the Nigeria Police Force or other relevant security agencies.
  2. Written Notification: Organizers are required to submit written notices to the Police, with copies sent to other security agencies, ahead of any planned gathering.
  3. Compliance with Security Conditions: Organizers must adhere to all conditions stipulated by security agencies, including measures to maintain peace, avoid obstruction of public spaces, and ensure the safety of participants. These requirements may vary based on the nature and location of the event.
  4. Community-Level Verification: Traditional rulers must verify that security clearance has been granted before permitting any gathering in their respective communities.

Hon. Bello has directed all security agencies within Mopamuro LGA to begin immediate enforcement of the Executive Order. He also emphasized that violators will be prosecuted in accordance with the law.
