Natasha: Kogi Central deserves better representation – Activist

An activist and On Air Personality, Daniel Atayi, has said that the inability of suspended Senator Natasha Akpoti-Uduaghan to substantiate with evidence, her claim of sexual harassment against Senate President Godswill Akpabio renders her allegation mere political blackmail and witch-hunt against Akpabio.

According to Atayi, the embattled Senator has a history of baseless allegations of sexual harassment against men, a trend he said should not be allowed in the hallowed chamber.

He said in a video circulated on Friday night that the Senate should not be populated by lawmakers with penchant for blackmail, triviality and witch-hunt.

Reacting to the controversies surrounding the allegation, the activist stressed that the suspended Senator, a lawyer and lawmaker, should know that he who alleges must prove with commensurate evidence.

He also noted that the recall process by Kogi Central constituents was justified and should be commended.

While urging the Independent National Electoral Commission to be diligent in handling the recall move by the people of Kogi Central, he said, “I think the Kogi people should be commended. I commend them for initiating the recall process for her to get out of the Senate because that hallowed chamber, people with penchant for blackmail, triviality and sentiment should not be there.”

“It is a pity and I am highly disappointed at Senator Natasha for making us believe in nothing, believe in lies, and blackmail,” he said.

“Natasha, a senator and lawyer, openly accused her own Senate President, in the same hallowed chamber, of sexual harassment. She did not only stop there, for her to go to Berekete Family, the international media, to make the same claim, without providing one single evidence, shows nothing other than blackmail against the Senate President.

Atayi recalled how Natasha had made similar allegations in the past without providing evidence, saying her penchant for “blackmail, triviality and sentiment” had been a source of great worry for the people of Kogi Central.

According to him, Nigerians are wiser now and would not fall for conjectures and sentiment.

He explained why civil society organisations and rights activists had restrained themselves over the issue.

“As Nigerians who are wiser now and advocates of Democracy and Rule of Law, even advocates of Gender Equality and Girl Child Emancipation, we do not work or act based on frivolous allegations, and unsubstantiated evidence to her claims. We don’t work on the sentiment of the people, we work by the provisions of the constitution and legal framework,” he said.
