Nigeria At 63: Issues And Way Forward »

On this Nigeria Independence Day (1st October), it’s important for us as Nigerians to reflect on the past, present, and future of our dear country, Nigeria. No doubts, Nigeria has faced many challenges over the years, but it has also made great strides and achieved much since 1999 to date.

However, In order to build a brighter future for the next generation, we must address the issues that continue to hold us back; Poverty, corruption, and insecurity are just a few of the problems we must overcome and only by working together can we create a Nigeria that is peaceful, prosperous, and just for all its citizens.

OUR ISSUES

There are a number of issues currently facing Nigeria as country. Successive government since independence has tried but then, we are consistently affected by the following issues;

Firstly, there is the ongoing problem of insecurity, with frequent terrorist attacks, kidnappings, and other heinous crimes in our society especially the new trend “yahoo yahoo” amongst Nigeria youths.

Secondly, there is the issue of corruption, which is rampant at all levels of society and government.

Thirdly, there is the issue of poverty, with many Nigerians living in extreme poverty and struggling to meet their basic needs.

Finally, there is the issue of unemployment, with millions of young Nigerians unable to find work. All of these issues need to be addressed in order for Nigeria to thrive and prosper.

WAY FORWARD

In order to address the issues facing Nigeria as a country and as giant of Africa, a number of solutions must be implemented.

Firstly, there needs to be a concerted effort to tackle insecurity, through improved policing, intelligence gathering, and international cooperation.

Secondly, corruption must be tackled head-on, with stricter laws and enforcement.

Thirdly, poverty must be addressed through social welfare programs, job creation initiatives, and investments in education and infrastructure.

Finally, unemployment must be addressed through investments in skills training and entrepreneurship programs. These solutions are not easy, but they are necessary for Nigeria to overcome its challenges.
