Kogi NYCN Crisis: Sport Director Rejects Suspension, Accuses Chairman of Misconduct

The internal crisis within the Kogi State chapter of the National Youth Council of Nigeria (NYCN) has deepened following the alleged suspension of the Deputy State Chairman and the Director of Sport West, Comrade Adeyemi Emmanuel Gbenga. The suspension, reportedly announced by the State Chairman, Comrade Benjamin Ojodale, has been met with strong resistance from the affected officials.

In a statement issued by Comrade Adeyemi, he dismissed the suspension as illegal and baseless, arguing that the Chairman lacks the constitutional authority to unilaterally suspend council officials without due process. He described the action as part of a series of irregularities that have plagued the council since Comrade Ojodale assumed office.

According to Adeyemi, the current leadership has engaged in various acts of misconduct, including mismanagement of council funds, character assassination, and disregard for the council’s constitution. He vowed to expose these alleged wrongdoings and hold those responsible accountable.

“The Chairman’s destructive tendencies have gone unchecked for too long. We will not be silenced or intimidated. The truth about his misdeeds, including financial misappropriation and abuse of power, must come to light,” Adeyemi stated.

He further rejected the validity of the suspension, citing constitutional violations, and called for justice and adherence to the rule of law within the youth council. He also criticized external influences allegedly interfering in the council’s affairs, vowing to resist any attempt to undermine its integrity.

Setting the record straight, Adeyemi clarified his official designation as Director of Sport West, not Director of Agriculture West, suggesting that the Chairman lacks familiarity with the council’s leadership structure.

“As a law-abiding citizen, my integrity, which I have built over the years with my parents, cannot be tarnished. I have faith in our country and in our Governor, who has appointed a dedicated Youth Commissioner for Sports Development,” he added.
