Ododo Commissions Ultramodern Secondary Schools in Kogi, Reaffirms Commitment to Education
Governor of Kogi State, Ahmed Usman Ododo, on Monday commissioned two ultra-modern GYB Model Science Secondary Schools in Nagazi, Adavi Local Government Area, and Okebukun in Kabba-Bunu Local Government Area, describing the project as a bold step toward securing the future of the state through strategic investment in education.
The commissioning ceremony, performed by the Honourable Minister of Education, Maruf Tunji Alausa, drew dignitaries from across government, education stakeholders, and members of the host communities.

Speaking at the event, Governor Ododo said the establishment of the model schools reflects his administration’s deliberate commitment to raising a generation equipped with knowledge, character, and leadership capacity. He noted that the project aligns with his broader vision of transforming Kogi into a knowledge-driven state.
“The GYB Model Science Secondary School stands as a monumental expression of our resolve to build enduring value in the lives of our young people and in the progress of our state,” the governor said.
He explained that the school is part of the state’s Mega School initiative, designed to expand access to quality education through modern facilities and a conducive learning environment across strategic locations in the state.

Governor Ododo also acknowledged the support of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, commending his administration’s economic reforms which he said have increased revenue available to sub-national governments for critical infrastructure.
According to him, investments in education, healthcare, and other key sectors in Kogi have been made possible through improved fiscal capacity driven by federal policies.
The governor further highlighted ongoing reforms in the education sector, including improved funding, expansion of access, and accreditation of courses in state-owned tertiary institutions such as Prince Abubakar Audu University, Confluence University of Science and Technology, and Kogi State University.
He added that the administration is prioritising Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics (STEM) education, as well as equipping students with critical 21st-century skills such as innovation, creativity, and problem-solving.
Describing the facility, Ododo said the school comprises 18 classrooms with three arms each, a well-stocked library, science and ICT laboratories, a 326-capacity Computer-Based Test (CBT) centre, sports facilities, and modern water, sanitation, and hygiene infrastructure. He disclosed that the school currently accommodates over 1,700 students.
Governor Ododo also paid tribute to his predecessor, Yahaya Adoza Bello, for initiating the Mega Schools project, noting that his administration is building on that foundation to further strengthen the state’s education system.
In his remarks, Minister of Education, Dr. Alausa, commended the Kogi State Government for its strategic investment in education, noting that the GYB Model Science Secondary School meets national standards for teaching and learning.

“This project is a clear demonstration that when leadership prioritises education, the results are visible and impactful. What we see here today aligns with the Federal Government’s vision of strengthening human capital development through quality education,” he said.
The minister reiterated the commitment of the Federal Government to support states in improving educational infrastructure and outcomes, adding that collaboration between federal and state governments remains critical to achieving sustainable development in the sector.
He encouraged students to take advantage of the opportunities provided by the facility, urging teachers and administrators to remain committed to excellence in service delivery.
The event featured goodwill messages from stakeholders, community leaders, and the Commissioner for Education, who lauded the project as a transformative development for Nagazi and its environs.
