Okai Austin Retracts Allegation of N13.4 Billion Diversion Against Kogi Governor Ododo

A critic of the Kogi State Government, Comrade Usman Okai Austin, has formally retracted his earlier statement alleging that Governor Ahmed Usman Ododo diverted N13.4 billion from the state’s coffers.

In a signed letter addressed to the Governor, Okai admitted that the allegation made during a press briefing last month, alongside Comrade Okpanachi Jacob and Peter Onuma, was based on inaccurate information.

“Upon further review and diligent comparison of the relevant facts, particularly those provided by the State Government. I came to the realization after much briefing and clarification that there were significant discrepancies in the information upon which the previous statement was based,” Okai stated.

He clarified that the actual amount in question was Three Billion Naira (N3,000,000,000), not N13.4 billion as earlier claimed, and acknowledged the existence of official documentation supporting the legitimate disbursement of the funds for local government development.

Okai, on behalf of himself and his co-speakers at the briefing, tendered an unreserved apology to Governor Ododo, the state government, and the people of Kogi State for the confusion caused by the earlier remarks.

“We have no personal animosity, hatred, or ill feelings towards your Government, Personality, Tribe, or any member of your family,” he said, adding that their involvement in public discourse is purely driven by a desire to contribute to democratic accountability.

He emphasized that the retraction was made in good faith and expressed deep regret for any distress or damage the allegation may have caused.
