PAAYEF Quiz/essay: St. Augustine wins in Kogi West, as 9 Sec. Schools to compete at final
St. Augustine College Kabba has emerged winner of the Pharmacist Abdulkareem Asuku Youth Empowerment Foundation (PAAYEF), secondary school quiz/essay competition held in Kogi West Senatorial region while Iyara Anglican Secondary School and Titcombe College Egbe took 2nd and 3rd positions respectively.
The Final Zonal Stage of the PAAYEF Inter-School Quiz Competition which had 13 of the 14 schools invited from the 7 Local Government Areas within the region compete on Saturday.
In her address, the Focal person of PAAYEF inter-school quiz competition, Mrs. Musa Sandra Mimi thanked the participants including schools and students who have engaged all through the zonal stages across the three senatorial districts.
While thanking the schools and other stakeholders for their cooperation, she lauded Kogi State Chief of Staff, Pharmacist Abdulkareem Asuku whose benevolence she noted has ensured that students have been encouraged to pursue academic excellence in their various strides.
She announced that the grand finale of the PAAYEF Inter-school quiz competition would hold Saturday, October 17 in Lokoja where 9 finalist across the three senatorial districts would compete for various prizes which include Scholarships for winners.
Kogi state commissioner for Education, Science and Technology, Hon.Wemi Jones in his opening remarks called on organisations, well meaning individuals to support educational sector so as to raise the quality and standards of schools across the state.
He said “PAAYEF has contributed immensely to the advancement of education in the state, this competition will raise confidence and culture of excellence in the students”.
“The Foundation is the first of its kind to sponsor quiz competition for students of public schools in the state and I urge as many others to emulate the them by contributing their quota in whatever form that will assist in the transformation of education in the state” he added.
The commissioner explained that the theme of the competition “Reviving the glory of Education” was carefully selected to raise the consciousness of the citizenry to contribute immensely to the funding of education , stressing that Governor Yahaya Bello has resolved to increase budgetary allocation to the sector.
