PDP solidarity forum chair, former Dekina LG party Vice Chair, 682 others dump party for APC
A major realignment has occurred in the fold of the major opposition in Kogi State, the People’s Democratic Party, PDP, as some of its eggheads dump the party for the ruling All Progressives Congress, APC.
The development is obviously a major blow to the PDP’s hope of wrestling power from the APC in November’s Governorship poll in the state.
The now former PDP Solidarity Forum Chairman, Muhammad Yusuf said his decision to dump the opposition party was informed by the infrastructural and human capital development being witnessed in Kogi East despite the fact that it is a non – Igala that is governing the state.
He said unlike in the past when the people were used to having their own as Governor, it had dawned on him that Igalaland musn’t compulsorily have one of their own as Governor to witness development as is currently the situation.
On his part, former PDP Vice Chairman for Dekina Local Government Area, Hon Shaibu Suleiman said he was tired of working for a party that does not appreciate the efforts being put in by members and supporters.
The Chairman said Kogi State Governor, Alhaji Yahaya Bello has been able to convince him beyond all shreds of doubts that good governance knew no tongue nor Creed.
He said Kogi East and Dekina Local Government in particular had never witnessed the level of development it is currently enjoying despite the fact that the Governor is not an Igala man. “We are joining this party because we want to ensure that Governor Bello continues with the good work that he is doing beyond 2019”. He said
The decampee noted that they were the architects of PDP’s victories in elections in time past even though they had nothing to show for their labour, adding that it was time to change and join the winning team.
While assuring the new additions that APC is a party that believes in equity and fair play, the Chief of Staff to Governor Bello, Hon Edward Onoja and the Kogi East Zonal Chairman of the APC, Hon Ahmed Attah assured them that they would be carried along in the scheme of things.
The Chief of Staff particularly expressed joy for the additions, saying they were major obstacles against the smooth sail of the APC in Dekina Local Government Area and parts of Kogi East in previous polls.
They said APC believed in loyalty, dedication and hard work, and assured them that they would enjoy equal treatment from the party.
To the duo of Hon Onoja and Attah, Governor Yahaya Bello is the reason behind why the party has become so attractive, hence the need for the people to back his re – election bid and preach his gospel in all parts of Igalaland.
In the same vein, other speakers including lawmakers and political appointees from the area all highlighted some of the projects so far executed in the area and Igalaland in general and the ones that are ongoing, and appealed for their support to ensure the return of the Governor for a second term.
