Private schools in Kogi urged to register with MOEST

Kogi State government has reiterated her support for private institutions in the state; promising them the necessary backing to move ahead.

The Commissioner for Education Science and Technology, Hon. Wemi Jones, FCIB, gave the indication when he received members of the Parents/Teachers Association of Matini International Schools, Lokoja in audience on Thursday.

The Commissioner said the government would incorporate private schools as much as their public counterparts in the ongoing upgrade and standardisation of the state educational system.

He noted that the Ministry had maintained strong collaboration with the National Association of Proprietors of Private Schools (NAPPS) to ensure that private schools were carried along in the education development plans of Governor Yahaya Bello.

He described private schools as partners in progress and not competitors of public schools; promising the former the necessary support to succeed.

He however emphasised that private schools in the state must comply with the provisions of Kogi State Education Law 2020; reiterating the need for them to meet up with set standards.

He charged private school owners to key promptly into the rapid and sustainable educational development of the present administration, urging them to register with the State Ministry of Education in record time.

The Commissioner warned that government would be firm in enforcing the State Education Law 2020 going forward, as outright abuse of the system would no longer be condoned.

Earlier, the Chairman of the PTA of Matini International Schools, Dr. Mrs Jessica Gyegwe said they were in the Ministry to solicit support for the upcoming developmental programmes of the school.

She highlighted the humanitarian services of Matini Schools to include the award of scholarships to orphans and indigent children in the community.
