Real Mama Kogi’s Arrest Necessary to Stem Online Recklessness, Special Adviser

An Aide to Governor Ododo of Kogi State has said the arrest of popular social media personality “Real Mama Kogi” was a necessary step to address what he described as growing recklessness on digital platforms.

Speaking in a statement on Sunday, the Special Adviser to the Governor on Social Behaviour, Hon. Rufai Enero Sule, said the influencer’s conduct online had crossed acceptable boundaries and posed a risk to public order.

Sule praised Governor Ahmed Usman Ododo for directing the arrest, noting that the decision reflects the administration’s resolve to tackle misinformation, incitement, and irresponsible online behaviour.

He explained that no society can function effectively when individuals use social media to spread falsehoods or inflame tension, adding that the type of content attributed to “Real Mama Kogi” was unacceptable and inconsistent with responsible civic conduct.

The Special Adviser stressed that while freedom of expression remains a fundamental right, it does not protect actions that threaten peace or promote instability. He warned that the government’s stance should serve as a caution to others who misuse social platforms to push divisive or harmful narratives.

According to him, the state will continue to promote responsible engagement online and ensure that digital spaces are not used to undermine public harmony.
