Residents, Commuters Heave Sigh of Relief As Work Begins on Ganaja Road

Residents of Ganaja Village and Motorists today heaved a sigh of relief as the Kogi State Government deployed equipments to open up the Ganaja Village Road that had trapped trucks and vehicles due to flooding.

The road which serves as a major route linking the North with the Eastern parts of the country was overtaken by flood in the last one month trapping several trucks along the road leading to Ajaokuta and the East.

Recalled that we had highlighted the socio-economic pains hardship suffered by both motorists and those living along the routes leading to Ganaja village, a suburb of Lokoja, the state capital.

Already, heavy duty equipments have commence work on the failed section just as the alternative route through 500 units housing estate is also being graded for easy accessibility during the rehabilitation works.

Kogi State Commissioner for Works and Housing, Abubakar Ohere in an interview with our correspondent shortly after moving to the site prior to the commencement of work paid tribute to residents of the community for their self efforts in making efforts to fix portion of the road.

The Commissioner said that the state government was putting the palliative works in place in partnership with the Community, through the Kogi state road maintenance agency ,KOGROMA, adding that what is needed in the present circumstances is a synergy that works.

The Commissioner said even though the Ganaja road is a Federal Road, it’s economic importance to the State and the Nation has prompted the frequent repair works carried out by the state government over the years.
