Sen. Isah Jibrin Attends Senate Hearing on Bill to Establish Federal Orthopaedic Hospital in Dekina

The Senate Committee on Health (Secondary and Tertiary) on Monday held a public hearing on several key healthcare bills, including the proposed establishment of a Federal Orthopaedic Hospital in Dekina, Kogi State.

The session, chaired by Senator Ipalibo Harry Banigo, brought together lawmakers and stakeholders to review legislative proposals aimed at strengthening the nation’s health system.

The Federal Orthopaedic Hospital Dekina Establishment Bill, sponsored by Senator Jibrin Isah (Echocho), was one of the major bills considered. Others included the National Health Amendment Bill sponsored by Senator Banigo, and the Sickle Cell Disorder Research and Therapy Centres Establishment Bill sponsored by Senator Katung Sunday Marshall, alongside two related health-sector proposals.

In his remarks, Senator Isah praised President Bola Ahmed Tinubu for prioritising healthcare reforms and national development. He said the proposed orthopaedic hospital would greatly improve access to specialised medical services for residents of Kogi State and neighbouring communities.

The lawmaker also noted that the bills under review have the potential to boost medical research and enhance healthcare delivery across the country.

The public hearing continues as the Senate moves toward further legislative action on the proposed reforms.
