Students lauds PAYEEF quiz/essay competition, as winners emerge in Kogi central

… State Commissioner hails NGO for investing in education

An SS3 student of Ebira Community Secondary School (ECSS) Ogaminana, who participated in the quiz competition, Shuaibu Abdulmalik has lauded PAAYEF (Pharmacist Abdulkareem Asuku Youth Empowerment Foundation) for giving concern to student’s education noting that such would boost their morale towards excellent academic performance

The student was among those whose school emerged winner from the PAAYEF Kogi Central quiz/essay competition which held on Saturday at Abdulaziz Memorial College, Okene.

Abdulmalik encouraged parents to enroll their wards in public schools adding that the notion of poor performance was a myth which their Victory in the zone’s competition among 11 other private and public schools had demystified

The PAAAYEF’s quiz/essay competition Focal Person, Hon. Sandra Musa, said the competition was sponsored by PAAYEF to facilitate access to quality education and open opportunities for students across Kogi State.

She explained that the participating schools in the competition were selected by the ministry of education based on their past academic records without any form of external influence adding that such has helped ensured fairness in the competition

She said “a total of eleven schools, with two from each of Adavi, Okehi, Ajaokuta and Ogori/Mangogo, and three schools from Okene Local Government Areas, were selected for the competition in Kogi Central, with three students representin each school”

The focal person revealed that the competition for the Western Senatorial district, would hold on October 9, at Saint Augustine College, Kabba.

According to her, the best three schools in each senatorial district would proceed to Lokoja for the final round of the quiz/essay competition where overall winners would emerge.

She said the student who emerged overall best at the finals in Lokoja, would get full scholarship to university level, while the 2nd and 3rd positions to get scholarship for secondary education including payment for WAEC and JAMB, and a year scholarship respectively.

She added that PAAYEF would also give awards and gifts to all participants and schools that made it to the final round in Lokoja.

Earlier in his remarks the State’s Commissioner for Education, Science and Technology, Hon. Wemi Jones, commended PAAYEF for heeding to the ministry’s clarion call to support education development in the state.

Mr. Jones said that His Excellency, Governor Yahaya Bello, believed very strongly in revamping education in the state, and had committed enormous resources to the project.

He stressed that the ministry had continued to reach out to organisations and well spirited individuals seeking to collaborate in educational endeavours and PAAYYEF had distinguished itself with this feet

He lauded the Chief of Staff to Governor Pharm. Abdulkareem Asuku, the founder of PAAYEF for using his resources to support education through the statewide interschool competition.

He charged the students to ensure to place premium priority on their academics in pursuit of a better future stating that they also could contribute to academic welfare of students in the nearest future replicating the same gesture as PAAYEF.

The Ebira Community Secondary School (ECSS) Ogamina in Adavi Local Government Area emerged the winner of the inter-school quiz competition while Demonstration Standard College Onyukoko Okene and Government Science Secondary School Ogaminnann took second and third positions respectively with all 11 schools in attendance.
