Governor Ododo Launches Community Security Engagement in Omala

In a bid to bolster grassroots security and strengthen public awareness, the Kogi State Government has launched a Community Security and Awareness Engagement in Omala Local Government Area, under the directive of Governor Ahmed Usman Ododo.

The event, which drew community leaders, security stakeholders, youth groups, and concerned citizens from across the Ankpa Federal Constituency, was spearheaded by Rt. Hon. Ahmed Mohammed, the Zonal Security Adviser to the Governor for the Ankpa Federal Axis.

In his address, Hon. Mohammed emphasized that the initiative reflects Governor Ododo’s commitment to inclusive security under his Renewed Hope mandate. He noted that true security lies not only in the presence of law enforcement but also in trust, unity, and cooperation among community members.

“The Governor believes that every citizen is not just to be protected, but also empowered to be a protector,” he said. “Security is not solely the responsibility of government—it is a shared duty.”

Mohammed highlighted the pressing security issues facing the region, including youth restiveness and pockets of criminal activity. However, he praised the resilience and vigilance of the people of Ankpa, calling for greater collaboration between communities and security agencies.

Key topics addressed during the engagement included community-based intelligence gathering, the importance of early warning systems, and how to safely report suspicious activity. Participants were also encouraged to foster a culture of peace and mutual support.

Hon. Mohammed lauded the contributions of traditional rulers, religious leaders, and grassroots groups, whom he described as the “unsung heroes” of local security efforts.

Reaffirming the Governor’s commitment, he concluded: “With one voice and one purpose, we can protect our homes, our streets, and our future. No community will be left behind in this mission.”

The event is one of several community-centered security engagements planned across the state as part of the Ododo administration’s proactive approach to tackling insecurity.
