We will not allow anyone tarnish GYB’s security legacy – Traditional Rulers

…as Gov. Bello reads riot act to perpetrators of communal clash

Following reports of killings in some parts of Oganenigu, Edede, Aloko and some other communities in Dekina Local Government Area, a prompt response by governor Bello to conduct an on-the-spot assessment culminating in an emergency meeting held in Idah on Tuesday comprising of the State Government, Security Heads, Local Government Chairmen, Traditional Rulers, Miyetti Allah representatives and Aldos of the 9 LGAs of Kogi East.

The Atta of Igala, HRH. Matthew Opaluwa represented by the Ejeh of Ibaji pointed out that the traditional rulers would never allow anyone tarnish Governor Bello’s legacies in the area of security of which he has been adjudged to have performed excellently.

While lauding the governor’s prompt response, he pointed out that the state governor has strived for harmony amongst every stakeholders in the state by ensuring everyone was efficiently carried along adding that efforts would be rejigged towards nipping the issue of infiltrators into respective areas without going through the proper means.

Governor Bello who was represented by his Deputy, Edward Onoja emphasised that citizens were guided by the Nigerian constitution which strictly prohibits extra judicial killings or taking the lives of another citizen.

He lamented that it was unfortunate that some persons assumes to be above the constitution while he quickly reiterated that such actions were not permitted in Kogi state because his administration values human lives.

He added that it is barbaric and inhumane to take human lives under the guise of conflict over material things most pertinently in the holy months of Ramadan and the Christian lent, promising that justice will prevail.

Bello added that no matter the grievances, there are procedures, processes and authorities that exist to ensure that such wrongs were corrected and justifying killings of fellow humans because of any of such grievances would not be permitted in the state.

The governor warned that Kogi is not a place to ferment evil noting that the peace the state has enjoyed took 7 painstaking years of hard work and his administration desired to sustain this legacies hence those wanting to stain this track record to desist as his government would come for them.

While he commended the security agencies in the state for their continued work in the state he charged traditional rulers and local government chairmen to up their game and live up to their respective responsibilities in their respective domains.

Earlier, the State Security Adviser, Comdr. Jerry Omodara, pointed out that the essence of the meeting was to engage in fact findings and to also ensure nip in the bud a reoccurrence of such ugly incidence.
