Women Affairs Minister commends Gov Bello’s efforts towards gender balancing, women empowerment
The Minister for Women Affairs and Social Development Dr. Dame Paulien Talen has described as highly commendable Governor Bello’s conscious effort towards gender equality and women support promotion.
She made this known on Saturday at the event of the conferment as a goodwill ambassador of Nigerian Women on Governor Bello and an award presentation as the most gender sensitive Governor in Nigeria
The Minister who was represented by the Director Women Development, Federal Ministry of Women Affairs and Social Development Mrs. Oladipo Funke, noted that the Governor’s achievement at improving visibility for women as shown in the various political appointments and particularly the local government election of women and the encouragement of women in every strata of life was greatly lauded
She congratulated the Governor for his purposeful leadership which has earned him such recognition by the national highest women body in the country.
The Minister recalled that the Ministry recently has being in the fore front of recognizing men who were women advocate and Chief executives of organization who implement women friendly policies at national and state level were referred to as “He for She”
She also recognized the Governor’s giant stride and has nominated the Governor for the next batch of the He for She award which has some of its Previous beneficiaries to include President Muhammadu Buhari and the Senate President, Mr. Lawan Ahmed.
Dr. Dame Paulien asserted that the Governor’s administration has no doubt contributed to changing some negative indices as witnessed in the formal reduction in the maternal and child mortality rate, improve in immunization coverage for children and pregnant women, increase in the enrolment of girls in school, improved women participation in Agriculture, politics and leadership roles
The Ministry also appreciated the governor’s effort at making sure that the 35% representation of women in both elective and appointive post was being implemented in the state noting that she was well aware that the 35% has even been surpassed.
She opined that by implication, except and unless women were strategically involved in all facet of socio political spheres, the nation risked the opportunity of attaining its National Developmental Goal of economic recovery and growth
In her address, Dr. Gloria Laraba Shoda, President National Council of Women Societies (NCWS) expressed that the political will exhibited by Governor Bello in women empowerment was unprecedented in the history of Nigeria politics hence the need to celebrate his deed which represented a milestone worthy of emulation by other Chief Executives.
She noted that Global Gold Consult approached the NCWS on the need to honour Governor Bello and after carrying out its own findings they all concluded that such honour was the least they could do in recognition of the laudable inclusive governance of the governor.
