The Convener of the Avosuahi Global Initiative Against Human Trafficking/Child Exploitation, a campaign platform for awareness and sensitization against Human Trafficking and Child Exploitation has described human trafficking and children exploitation as the deadliest human evil, called on individuals to be vigilant, urged the government to adopt the 5Ps which are Prevention, Protection, Prosecution, Partnership and Punishment for total eradication of the menace.
Miss Avosuahi made this call in a statement issued in Lokoja, the Kogi State Capital when she liaised with some youths and the government representatives.
“Trafficking is a crime and global phenomenon that is used to exploits Humans, especially the trafficking of women and children that has impacted disproportionately on the nation. It exploits women, children and even men for numerous purposes including forced labour, child labour, forced prostitution, domestic servitude, organ harvesting, baby factories, illegal smuggling of migrants, sales and purchase of persons and all other forms of exploitation.”
“Through trafficking, the future of thousands of young people has been ruined and it is therefore insensitive for those in a position to help the crime to remain aloof.”
“Just as I was inspired to have NGO in a crusade against this menace, individuals should also be passionate to take this seriously while the Federal and State government coordinate inter-agency actions against human trafficking. They should keep up fight against all forms of Human Trafficking, bearing in mind that total eradication can only be completed by considering agency such as the National Agency for Prohibition of Trafficking in Person’s (NAPTIP) through which the 5Ps such as Prevention, Protection, Prosecution, Partnership, and Punishment can be adopted and achieved.” She said.
Avosuahi called on the Government to tackle youth unemployment by providing more job opportunities, monitoring poverty, curbing illiteracy plus vulnerability of women and girls everywhere in Nigeria. Federal Government through NAPTIP should as well continue great work of investigation and prosecution of trafficking offenders and to continue to ensure that victims are respected and that their safety in shelters are ensured.”
Avosuahi further advises that, the Government should as well provide specialized training to the law enforcement agencies as related, on how to recognise and investigate cases of trafficking in persons.
“I urge our Government to make real commitments to create comprehensive anti- trafficking legislations from a victim-centred approach. There is need for all hands to be on deck in addressing human trafficking especially of women and girls and Traffickers must continue to be brought to justice.” Avosuahi Established.
