Yahaya Bello: Attempt To Invade Kogi Govt House, Coup Against Democracy, Will Be Vehemently Resisted, Kogi Indigenes Warn
Indigenes of Kogi state under the aegis of Kogi Indigenes Assembly (KIA) have warned against any plan by either embittered loser politicians or those they described as persecutors to invade the government house in Lokoja for whatever reason.
According to them, this would be tantamount to coup, and will be resisted by the entire Kogi State indigenes, as bona-fide constituents of a federating unit of the Federal Republic of Nigeria.
The warning is in response to a call by a few ethnic jingoists working with outsiders threatening to occupy the Government House in pursuit of their devilish motives, according to the indigenes.
In a release on Monday, Kogi Indigenes Assembly through its President, Dr. Ben Oguche, said those seeking to fan the embers of violence and chaos will be stiffly resisted, adding that the relative peace the state was enjoying could not be sacrificed on the ego of desperate political figures and manipulative tendencies of power mongers.
Dr. Oguche alleged that the “desperate politicians and their external collaborators have acquired highly sophisticated weapons to arm hoodlums who will disguise as security agents to invade the Kogi Government House, urging the Commissioner of Police in the State, Director DSS, Commander of the NSCDC and other relevant security agencies to be on the guard.
He said, “We have it on good authority that same politicians who have been routinely rejected by the good people of our dear state at the poll and some external forces who are bent on causing chaos are arming hoodlums in a desperate effort to truncate democratic institution in Kogi State.
“They want to deploy coup to achieve what they couldn’t achieve at the polls, but we want to tell them that Kogi is a no-go area. Kogi people will resist that with everything in them.
“Those stoking mayhem and promoting ethnic division in Kogi should be ready to provide answers to their evil deeds as violence has no place in our state. The people of our dear state have through their thumbs at the polls chosen a path of future they find more fulfilling. Those who want to rule through the barrel of gun will never be allowed to succeed.
“They are the ones plotting to set the entire state on fire because they were rejected, because their sponsors are afraid of the rising profile of Kogi State leader and would stop at nothing to bring the state down because of their desperate and selfish interests.”
The indigenes added, “We want to use this medium to draw the attention of the various security heads in Kogi to be at alert and avert an impending disaster because Kogi Indigenes will be ready to defend their state.
“Those who have instituted a legal action against Bello, at the same time wanting to invade Government House in the guise of searching for him are only playing double standards. The Rule of Law must not be traded in place of violence, anarchy and chaos. They should wait patiently and allow the wheel of justice to grind to a logical end.
“The institution of judiciary was put in place to give our democracy a meaning. Those who want to overthrow a duly elected government at the same time seeking redress from court are enemies of our country and must be resisted.”
