Yahaya Bello Mourns Etsu Bassa-Nge, Brigadier General Abu Ali

Former Governor of Kogi State, Alhaji Yahaya Bello, has expressed deep sorrow over the death of the Etsu Bassa-Nge, His Royal Highness Brigadier General Abu Ali (rtd), describing it as a significant loss to Kogi State and the country at large.

In a message signed by his media aide, Ohiare Michael, Bello said the late traditional ruler embodied courage and patriotism, noting that his years in the Nigerian Army were marked by discipline, loyalty, and an unwavering commitment to defending the nation.

He recalled their close working relationship during his tenure as governor, adding that the monarch played a vital role in maintaining stability and harmony within the Bassa-Nge Kingdom. According to him, the late Abu Ali’s reign reflected humility, wisdom, and compassion qualities that endeared him to his people and strengthened traditional leadership in the state.

Bello also highlighted the monarch’s broader contributions to national development, pointing to his distinguished military career and his service as Governor of Bauchi State between August 1990 and July 1992 under the administration of General Ibrahim Badamasi Babangida.

He prayed for Allah’s mercy upon the deceased and for strength and comfort for his family, the Bassa-Nge Kingdom, and the entire Kogi State.

Born on September 6, 1946, Brigadier General Abu Ali (rtd) served in various capacities in the Nigerian Army before ascending the throne as Etsu Bassa-Nge.
