Youths in Dekina and Bassa Local Government Areas of Kogi State have expressed strong support for Governor Ahmed Usman Ododo, commending his inclusive style of governance, people-focused policies, and commitment to youth and infrastructural development.

The commendation was made on Monday during the Kogi Youth Townhall Meeting organized by the State Ministry of Youth and Sports Development as part of its ongoing engagement across the state.

In Dekina LGA, the youths praised Governor Ododo’s strides in education, citing the payment of WAEC and NECO examination fees, infrastructure upgrades in schools, and the revitalization of Prince Abubakar Audu University Teaching Hospital, which enabled the reintroduction of the medicine program in the institution.

They also applauded the administration for prioritizing workers’ welfare, especially through prompt salary and pension payments. While commending the state government’s efforts in other sectors, the youths appealed for urgent intervention in the construction of the Anyigba Township Road and other critical roads in the area. They further called for improved cooperation among political stakeholders in the local government to attract more development.

Chairman of Dekina LGA, Hon. Ikani Urah, in his remarks, aligned with the youths’ assessment and reaffirmed the Governor’s achievements in security, youth development, and workers’ welfare, noting that Governor Ododo’s administration has been consistent in responding to the needs of the people.

Similarly, youths in Bassa LGA declared their support for Governor Ododo, praising his administration’s investment in agriculture, youth and women empowerment, and the effective handling of security challenges in the area, which they said has helped restore peace and promote unity. However, they urged the state government to prioritize the rehabilitation of deplorable roads in the area, which remain a significant concern for residents.

Addressing the youths in both local government areas, the Commissioner for Youth and Sports Development, Hon. Monday Aridaojo Anyebe, expressed appreciation for their active participation and commendations. He reiterated Governor Ododo’s commitment to youth development, stating that the administration is investing in critical infrastructure, education, health, and empowerment to improve the quality of life for young people in the state.

“Governor Ahmed Usman Ododo is leading a people-oriented government. The administration is deliberate about ensuring that the youth are not only carried along but are at the center of development conversations,” he said.

Hon. Anyebe assured the youths that all their submissions and requests would be documented and presented to the Governor to help shape future policy directions and developmental plans.

The townhall meetings in Dekina and Bassa mark another successful leg of the statewide engagement, which aims to strengthen communication between the government and young people and ensure inclusive policy-making. The meetings are expected to continue in other parts of the state in the coming days.
