The state party chairman, All Progressive Congress, Kogi State, Hon. Abdullahi Bello has debunked that the party have endorsed or imposed candidates on party stakeholders across different elective offices in the forth coming general election.

The Chairman in a press release sent to InsideStory on Thursday clarified that there was no anointed candidate to any elective office in the next general election of 2023 adding that every eligible member of the party who wished to contest for any position should present themselves to the party members and convince them of their suitability for such office.

He said “The All progressive Congress is a political party anchored on progressivism philosophy, it is a party with a hallmark of internal democracy, a party of equal opportunity, the playing field is level for all; the rules will be applied equally, no one will be favoured nor will anyone be disadvantaged, the party has no preferred candidate for any office what so ever”.

Hon. Bello added that prelude to the General Election, candidates would emerge from the process approved by the constitution of the party and the electoral law noting that the law was clear on the mode of primaries for political parties to choose their candidates for the elections which included direct, indirect and consensus.

He said “it is the tradition of our party to encourage consensus candidate among the aspirants themselves where practicable, this is to minimize misgivings, but the party will never impose any candidate for any elective office(s)”.

While the leadership of the party congratulated party faithfuls for the successful conduct of the party National Convention which he stressed demonstrated beyond all doubts the party’s resolve to forge a united and strong party

He similarly appreciated the goodwill and show of love to the Governor of Kogi State, Yahaya Bello on his presidential declaration affirming that hope has come for Nigerians.
