As the politicking for the 2023 Presidential election begins to gather momentum, Governor Yahaya Bello of Kogi State, despite not having declared to contest, has continued to enjoy overwhelming support and endorsements especially from the youths demography.

The support base of the young governor was once again re-enforced yesterday when the Governor hosted youths of the state for Ramadan break of fast (Iftar), in the government house in Lokoja, as the youths re-echoed the call on the Governor to contest for presidency in 2023.

The gathering comprised of youths and students under the aegis of the National Youth Council of Nigeria (NYCN), National Association Of Kogi State Students (NAKOSS), National Association of Nigeria Students, Joint Campus Committee (NANS JCC), Student Union Government (SUG) representatives from all tertiary institutions, Association of Female Students (AFS), and other youths and students stakeholders in the state.

Speaking at the event, the Chairman of the Youth Council, Comrade Israel Alonge said they have decided to stand by the Governor because he has shown he is ‘youthful and useful’.

He stated that Governor Bello has given the Kogi NYCN a sense of belonging which has made it to become the envy of their counterparts from across the country.

He said the practical implementation of the Governor’s policy of inclusiveness has placed the hitherto marginalized majority group which are the youths in vantage positions to contribute meaningfully to matters that affects them.

Alonge commended the Governor for being a worthy ambassador of youths and assured that the youths are unanimous in their resolve to have him lead the country and reposition it for greatness.

On their parts, the NAKOSS President, Comr. Enyojo Stephen, NANS JCC representative and SUG President of the Federal University, Lokoja all appreciated the Governor for beefing security on campuses and ensuring uninterrupted academic calendar for schools in the state.

Earlier in his opening remarks, the Special Adviser to the Governor on Youth and Student Matters, Comrade Jubril Ameh, thanked Governor Bello for uniting the youths of the state and providing with platforms to achieve and minimize their potentials. He said Kogi State has the highest record of young people in government, describing him as the emancipator of youths.

Responding, Governor Yahaya Bello appreciated the youths for their continued support and pledged to always protect their interests at every stage.

He advised them not to allow themselves to be used as tools to perpetrate violence or any form of crimes, urging them not to be allowed to be used by the older elites for their selfish interests.

Bello urged youths to make their voices crystal clear on the right changes they were really yearning for and unite to achieve them.
