2023: Youths must deviate from old norm, take up leadership role in our nation – Gov. Bello

Kogi State Governor, Yahaya Bello has stated that youths in the country must deviate totally from the politics of religion, regional and ethnic segregation adding that they must as a matter of urgency wake up to their leadership role in the country.

He added that such ideologies were stale and could were no longer efficient to get the best of leadership which would effectively steer the affairs of the nation which have now been relegated from its days of glory among the league of nation.

The Governor made this known on Wednesday while attending a political conference tagged: “Towards a Youthful Political Consciousness and 2023 General Elections” organised by the GYB2PYB Support Group at Grandeur Event Center, Oregun, Lagos.

Governor Bello who was represented by his Chief of Staff, Pharmacist Abdulkareem Jamiu asserted that the youths were largely responsible for the failures recorded in governance because they have resolved to overburdening our retirees with the pressure of governance and expected the country to emerge as the giant of Africa.

He alluded that Nigeria existed as an independent nation because some people fought to achieve this purpose, many of whom were passionate youths who contended to place the third most populous black nation among in a position of envy but its youths sadly on the long run decided to play back bench politics.

The Governor however expressed that current political trend have shown that youths were awake and were rising up to this challenge and have also realized the deceitful tactics used by some old selfish politicians to divide us from a common possible goal.

While he thanked the South West Youth for calling on him to run for the position of the president in 2023 and endorsed his candidacy as an expression of their support, he noted that youths by statistics are 70% of the voting population of the country and hence they were empowered to decide the fate of who becomes the next president of the country.

He also applauded them for their non regional, ethnical or religious approach towards his consideration noting that Nigeria was a more united and progressive entity if we override our individual differences and focus on a more collective concerns.

The Governor asserted that the Nation have had several past leaders within the age of 31 – 45 years, particularly during the military regime and it was never out of place for youths to clamour for leadership in the year 2023.

He emphasized that It was old school politics to believe to have differentiations based on our regions or geo political zones as our languages should be one Nigeria in a resolve to look for the best hand to lead us in years to come.

Governor Bello noted that while his administration among many other things continued to receive accolades in areas of security, women and youths inclusiveness, uniting the confluence state and bringing about infrastructural and socio economic development in the state much of these are what a government owned it’s people.

The youths on Wednesday, declared their support for governor Bello under the auspices of GYB2PYB Support Group across the South-West geopolitical zone calling on him to run for the 2023 presidential seat.

Speaking at the event, Oladele Nihi, the Director-General of the group, said: “The brain behind the conference is to conscientise Nigerians, especially the youths on the need to support youth presidency come 2023”.

On the acronym GYB2PYP, he said; “GYB2PYB (Governor Yahaya Bello to President Yahaya Bello) was formerly AYB (Alhaji Yahaya Bello), and it is our prayer that it will be changed to PYB (President Yahaya Bello) come 2023.
