Quintuplet: Kogi State Gov’t foot Medical Bills, fetes parents, other maternity patients
As the news of the birth of a set of quintuplets by a family at Federal Medical Centre in Lokoja continue to gain wide public attention, wife of Kogi State Governor, Mrs Rashida Bello has delicitated with the family and reiterated her dedication to prioritising the healthcare needs of expectant mothers so as to eradicate maternal and infant mortality in Kogi State.
She made the statement in an interview on Monday in Lokoja after a visit to the family at the Medical Centre.
Mrs Bello used the opportunity to stress her commitment to providing care for the needy, especially nursing mothers and their children.
She said she felt joy over the news of birth of the quintuplets by the Okeigbo family 18 years of childlessness, describing the birth as sign of good things to come for the entire state.
She promised that government would take over the children’s expenses till they come of age, in addition to footing their medical bills and those of other new mothers at the hospital’s maternity ward.
The Governor’s wife who said philanthropy had been part of her even before now, reiterated her commitment to touching the lives of the less fortunate in the society.
She then used the occasion to commend the efforts of the medical officials who delivered the family of the babies, saying their dedication had demonstrated their high level of professionalism.
“I want to commend Dr Grace Ogoke the Consultant, Obstetrician, Gynecologist, and the entire medical team for their professional service in ensuring that the babies were delivered safely.
“My pet project the Rashida Bello Foundation and the New Direction Government of Governor Yahaya Bello will always prioritize health care service for expectant mothers, to eradicate maternal and infant mortality in Kogi State,” Mrs Rashida Bello concluded.
